Boot Camp 2013 – Day 5 and last

Today our Boot Camp was over… 😦

To to wrap up in style we had snow rewarding us and stretch routine to loosen up our sore muscles.

The biggest problem with the snow is that it forced lots of people to stay home, so the classes were not as full as we all wished for.

But for those who made it, it was very nice and rewarding.

To avoid too many cars on the road, hubby and I carpooled which allowed me to attend class with 9Glutes. But I could not let my fellow 10acious girls all alone, so I ended up doing it twice. Feel really great and highly stretched now!

To start we jogged a couple laps to warm up a bit.

Then, to warm up even more, but inside, we played dancing mats, which was our yogi version of dancing chairs, but instead of seating on a chair when the music stop, we had to step on a mat. Then we also played freeze, in which we danced all around the room until the music stopped, when we’re supposed to freeze.

After warm up, we went for our highly anticipated and needed stretching. We used mats, yoga blocks, straps, walls, corners, bars….. nice!

For the Theme Of The Day, it was supposed to have been superheroes, but Sarah, who would be bringing the 12 matching capes, got stuck home with the snow. Britt and I were still able to somehow represent the theme, with her Captain America shield and my Wonder Woman nails (yeah.. I did had a lot of fun with my nails this week. Time for some polish remover now, followed by a light low-profile color… ;o)

In the 9Glutes team, the theme was ghosts and they had some spare ghostly stuff that I could borrow. The fact that I had white pants and long sleeves also helped.

We all did some cleaning up too.

Kim, from Savage@7, stayed late after her class to clean up the posters and mirror painting.

Then, after all was done, 10acious cleaned up the equipment, made sure the locker room was clean of clutter and got rid of the leftover food from our breakfast, very nicely provided by one of the early morning teams (Savage@7 ???).

For the point competition, the grand prize went to Savage@7, Followed by Krazy8s, then 10acious, 9Glutes and Owh!Shins!11

This year’s BootCamp was the best ever (on Miss V’s own words) and we had lots of fun that helped ease the lots of hard work.

Now for a break until Winter session starts in January.

Boot Camp 2013 – Day 4

Today was the day everyone was dreading. It was the day we did the 54321.

What that means?

Jog 5 laps outside around the soccer field, do 5 minutes of wall sit with a rubber band on our knees and throwing a ball to each other, do 5 minutes of plank, do 50 crunches while holding a ball between our knees, do 50 up and down bridges still holding the ball between our knees, then count to 50 while pumping the ball between our knees in bridge position.

Then start all over, with 4 laps, 4 minutes of wall sit and plank, 40 reps of abs, bridges and pumping.

The hardest is the 5 minutes of plank. Well… Ok. The hardest is plank! Period! Regardless of for how long.

Our theme today was red and green bandanas. I was also wearing an ugly sweater made out of a not-so-ugly red sweater and some felt Christmas ornaments pinned to it, and because my long-workout-pants-that-do-not-fall-during-burpies was in the laundry basket, I added to the costume by having capri pants and long striped socks pulled up to join the pants. Not a very flattering outfit, but very fun and silly.

Oh Yeah! And just because Rukmani suggested in yesterday’s post, I also had my red white and blue nails….

In spite of the 15 minutes of planking, the team was in very good spirits. Sherri and I were the first ones to finish the initial 5 laps, so we stayed outside cheering the other girls. Give me 10! Give me acious! Go 10acious!!!

We also cheered 9Glutes on their last round.
Karen was rocking on the plank and bridge noises. Britt had her professional camera to register. Then I stayed a little longer to take pictures of the first round for Owh!Shins!11, that had only 2 people today.

The classes standings after today’s session were not sent yet, so the numbers are still the same as last night. So instead of a table at the end of the post, I leave you with a Photo Gallery.

Boot Camp 2013 – Day 3

Today I did not attend Boot Camp because I spent my day at the Homeland Security office becoming an American Citizen. YAY!

But I could not let my fellow bootcampers go a day without the report, so I asked my 10acious friends to cover up for me.

Rukmani accepted the task to write down a description of the day, and Kathy was our picture taker.

The only thing that is missing is the buddies. They reside on my office and I didn’t have a chance to stop by to take their pictures, so for the illustrations I’ll have to recycle some stick men from last year and use some real pictures Miss V sent out already.

So here’s what I got from my awesome friends:

After 2 days of working really hard, Team 10acious was ready for Day 3 of bootcamp, which was also called Hump Day. We missed Sayeh, Brittany and our fearless leader, Gaby who was busy painting her nails red, white and blue (for her American citizenship).  It was Ms V’s dream weather for bootcamp today – cold and rainy, she keeps telling us that bootcamps usually involved getting soaked in the rain or freezing in the cold and we had it easy this time. Sarah drove by our building in the morning and clued us that the 9Glutes were indoors, so we might not go out in the cold. Well, not completely – Ms V said we would be spending 30 minutes on the field and then head inside. When we walked into the building, there was a pleasant surprise – delish holiday treats that the 9Glutes were kind enough to bring complete with Christmas cookies, hot coffee, yummy pastries, chocolate milk and eggs.
 
Round 1
We got split into 2 teams – Team Green and Team Red. We did the following exercises
1.       Alternating sit-stands
        SitDownUP
2.       Zig zag around cones (Team Green around the green cones and Team Red around the red cones) in a staggered order – when the first person is done with the first cone, the second person starts and so on. When we reach the cones, we had to airplane around it. When we reached the last cone, we sprint right back.

3.       Alternating sit-stands.
4.       Zig zag around cones – similar to last time except for when we reached the cones, we do a quick football touch and back off.
5.       Alternating sit-stands.
6.       Zig zag around cones – this was a race between Team Red and Team Green. Team Red won this race.
 
Round 2
We did the following exercises
·         Lift your right knee, then right arm travels from straight up to touch your left ankle foring a T. We did this again on the other side for a few reps.

·         Alternating lunges with squats in between till we walked to the middle of the field.

·         Bear crawl all the way back. Ms V was kind enough to say that we can all stop bear crawling when at least one person has walked all the way back. Thanks to Ying and Melissa, the rest of us avoided a few bear crawls.

By now, it started pouring down pretty hard, so we moved indoors for Round 3. Yaay, we were outside only for 15 minutes or so J.

Round 3 was a Christmas miracle – more than half an hour of foam rolling the heck out of our tight spots, marveling at the magic a foam roller and a tennis ball could do. There were interesting things we learnt about our bodies along the way – thanks to Ms V and the anatomically correct poster dude, George. Ms V also explained that when there are times that a foam roller is not handy, a simple tennis ball can do the trick as well. While we were foam rolling and stretching, we also bonded a lot discussing our bootcamp experiences – how we were completely wiped out and still excited enough to think about it all day.

We then helped set up the field for the 12 days of Workout routine for the mini-bootcampers – the weather had cleared up enough by now.

We all left with big smiles on our faces till someone reminded us of the dreaded 54321 workout tomorrow, GULP!
 
For our theme today, all of us wore Santa hats of different flavors – Kathy had a crazy bent hat, Karen had the cutest elf hat and Sarah had a sparkly Santa hat. Karen was awesome in fishing Ms V for points if we could wear our Santa hats to work. Ms V’s response – send your pictures and we’ll see. So yes, we are taking our costumes back to work AGAIN!!

In regards to the class standings, yesterday we did awesome and got the most points of the day, being able to get out of last place. Whoot, whoot!
But then today our points were not much. We were still able not to drop to last again, but didn’t go too far up.

Boot Camp 2013 – Day 2

Today was the second day of our annual bootcamp. For those who though yesterday was though, today seemed to be even tougher, but as fun as.

For our 10acious theme of the day, we had Tutu Tuesday!
We were all cute in our nice colored tutus and piggy tails! I had a couple more blings and wore holiday hair band for my piggy tails and flashing holidays lights as a necklace.

The workout was intense. Today we were inside and did 12 series of a set of exercises. In the first series we did 12 reps, in the second one, 11 reps, and so one, decreasing a rep on each series until 1 rep.

Boot Camp 2013 – Day 1

It’s that time of the year again!!!! BOOT CAMP is here!!!
For those who did not read my blog last year, here’s a brief explanation of what is it and how it works.

Miss V’s Fall session ends at around the second week of December, because at that time, most of her clients are leaving for Holiday’s break.
But most is not all, so for the one that stays, she gives the option to have a 1 week intense workout at Boot Camp.

This is the 4th year I’m participating and each year is gets more fun.
One of the things that helps a lot with the motivation and especially with the fun is the competition between the classes for points.
Each day, each class gets or loses points based on their behavior, mood, holiday/team/fun spirit, being on time….
The rules, as Miss V posted this year are as follows:

Every day each Team starts off with 10 points – how you & your Team performs and works together adds or subtracts.
Points given are the complete discretion of Miss Victoria on a variety of criteria – including, but not limited to:

  • Attendance – read ASAP note above
  • Coming very EARLY – perfect time to razz, cheer on, take pictures, sing carols to the earlier class
  • Encouraging and cheering each other on – invoking Beastmode!!! Learn names & have the mindset to workout HARD w/a positive HEART & HEAD!
  • Holiday spirit –  funny headbands, Rudolf noses, jingle bells, etc
  • Creativity: many teams have already arranged “theme” days – i.e. Beach Day, Disco Day, Camo Day, Seahawk Day, 50 Shades Day
  • Craziness, FUN & laugher (making Miss V laugh enough to pee her pants – automatic 20 points)
  • Team Facebook KLOUT: using our group page “2 Claps 1 Snap” to continue all of the above throughout the day
  • Staying late to: take pictures, clean up, razz the next class

Points will be deducted for the following – including, but not limited to:

  • Asking/inferring/demanding/whining for points
  • Whining about anything – especially the weather
  • Tardiness & Non-excused absences – NO tolerance for tardiness, the entire class will suffer greatly (situps/pushups/etc) if you are – BE VERY EARLY!
  • Grinch-like behavior
  • Not cleaning up after your own mess – including bathrooms
  • BootCamp shirts (from any year) MUST be worn EVERY day (however, those doing “theme days” – it will be excused if the ENTIRE class is in theme attire)

This year we’ll also have 3 categories for the win:

We have 4 full-week teams and 1 mini-week team. In the interest of fairness AND cutthroat competition, we have three tiers of scoring:

  • Camp Champions. At the end of the week, the team with the most points-per-day for the whole week is the winner.
  • Core Champions. The team with the most accumulated points for the middle three days: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
  • Flash Champions. Each day, whichever team scores the most points on that day.

I’m again doing it at 10:00 AM and our team name this year is 10acious! We’re 11 ladies: me, Kathy, Renukka, Sherri, Sarah, Britt, Rukmani, Ying, Melissa, Karen and Sayeh.

Today Melissa couldn’t make it due to being sick. Get well soon, Melissa!!!
But we had Emily joining us and even going along with our theme of the day to add to the fun. Nice to have you Emily!!!

Our theme today was Seahawks! Each one of us had something Seahawks. The ones who couldn’t get anything before hand, borrowed from the ones that had more than 1 item, so in the end we were all dressed up Football style. Yay!

Miss V’s Boot Camp – Last day

Today was our last day of boot camp.

And after all the running and jumping and weight lifting we did during the week, what we needed most today was to stretch.

So that’s what it was.

And it felt GOOD!

Being the last day, the classes tried also to be creative.

8:00 had a beach theme, in which they were wearing bikinis or speedos/shorts over their workout clothes. They also decorated the room with pictures of beaches, surf, hula dancers…

9:00 had a disco dance theme, in which they all had sparkling clothing, and a disco ball going on at the ceiling. I’ve heard that someone even brought a guitar and played a bit too.

For us, we were just trying to wear our Christmas trees. I dressed up as a candy cane, with red/white stripped clothes, and a lightup candycane head band, courtesy of Joyce. Joyce also made candycane necklaces for everyone to wear. Goms wore some of those red sparkling wreath things around her torso. The other girls came with their holiday PJs and we were all wearing Santa hats.

We also gave Miss V a poster with my workout drawings that illustrate the previous posts. And that one will be a keeper, as she attached it next to the ones that are permanently there. Yay!

And I got the title of “quiet but deadly”. Hum….

There are also drinks and food by the hall, brought in maybe by 8:00 or 9:00? One of the drinks as a Costa Rican-style eggnog, that I tried just a bit (was too late and got to the table when there was only a few drops left :() and loved it. The eggnog I know was made by Juan, from 8:00 class, because he was there and we met and he explained that he does not drink alcohol, but likes to make them for others (and see other people getting drunk? hey! naughty, naughty! ;))

As for the competition, we kept the 3rd place and the first one went to 8:00 AM.

Boot Camp 2O12!

Lots of work, lots of sweat, but also LOOOOTS of fun!

And just as a disclaimer, the workouts we did this week do not reflect the typical workouts at Miss V’s classes, as they are too tough and not very well balanced. She does that only once a year for only a few days, but does NOT do it like that regularly. She does pushes us! And we always have fun. But on a very balanced and healthy way.

Miss V’s Boot Camp – Day 4

We got the the fourth day of boot camp!

Today we had a workout that was done both indoors and outdoors. The fact that was pouring rain did not matter, gotta jog!!!

The routine was:

The 15 laps we did outside got us pretty much wet, but at least it wasn’t freezing cold.

My feet was drenching though, since I wear my five fingers, which does not protect the feet from water at all. But, oh well, 1 hour of wet feet is no big deal.

And we had fun!

Throwing balls is always fun. We had a few missed, some thrown at the ceiling, or at the Christmas Lighting, or, even better, at each others heads…

And the plank was honored with singing, especially from Shauna, who was counting on the singing to be able to get the minutes pass without noticing…

Today for the bling, apart from our everyday pigtails and antlers, we had a beaded necklace with a glittery snowflake and tramp stamps on our lower backs. Mine said BOOTYLICIOUS.
